Secretary Bart Vanthillo

Since graduating in 1990, I commenced my professional journey 34 years ago, engaging in a blend of clinical practice and teaching at Ghent University. My involvement extended to both the basic physiotherapy program and the manual therapy program, which I began contributing to in 1996. From the outset, I have been dedicated to our professional organization, starting with the Scientific Committee from 1996 to 2002, followed by serving as President of the MO until 2012. In this capacity, I spearheaded the consolidation of the two existing MT organizations towards the current ABSG Mathera.be, which subsequently became a subgroup of our parent body, AXXON PTIB Belgium, with whom we maintain a positive and respectful relationship. I resumed the presidency in 2020. I perceive myself as an open, attentive, and collaborative leader, ready to negotiate compromises to resolve conflicts.
I have also represented the MO in IFOMPT since 2010. At the national level, I have overseen the monitoring process for Belgian programs on three occasions, thus the IFOMPT monitoring process is familiar to me.
For many years (since 1996), I have closely followed IFOMPT’s evolution. I have witnessed significant milestones, such as the strategic meeting in Antwerp in 2001 and the implementation of the monitoring system. I have observed IFOMPT evolve from a relatively small group of countries in its early days to a much more inclusive and globally representative organization with robust, scientifically based standards.
I wholeheartedly support the current trend towards a more inclusive organization, striving to expand its reach worldwide and become more representative. However, I believe there is still more effort needed to include countries from regions that are more challenging to access, such as Africa, many countries in Middle and South America, Asia, etc. Diversity, in my view, is essential for a global organization.
