Member At Large Dusty Quinn

I graduated from the University of Ulster in 1988 and after two years in Manchester I travelled to Aotearoa / New Zealand. After completing a Masters in Manipulative Physiotherapy in 1997, I bought into a physiotherapy business. At that stage I was highly involved with sports teams at a local and regional level. I was the Director of Back in Motion, New Zealand, until July 2023. Over this time while in business I also gained experience in governance, leadership, and finance as a member of national Physiotherapy Executive and President of the NZMPA. I am the current chair of the Specialist Physiotherapy group in Aotearoa / New Zealand.
I continue to work as a Specialist Physiotherapist in the clinic and I also continue to have a strong link to academia. I have a good working relationship with my academic colleagues at the University of Otago and the Auckland University of Technology. I have taught at undergraduate and post-graduate levels over the years. In November 2023 I became an honorary fellow of the University of Otago.
In recent years, I have been part of clinical research at Otago University. My interests have been concussion management and access to primary care physiotherapy services. I continue teach with my wife Bronagh, on concussion management. Mentoring colleagues is something I enjoy, and this can range from undergraduate students to experienced physiotherapists. Being able to assist with their career pathways is a privilege.
Access to musculoskeletal physiotherapy services globally is a challenge. Advocating for our colleagues across the globe, to improve access to physiotherapy services to assist global burden of musculoskeletal disease, is “the why” from becoming an executive member of IFOMPT..
