IFOMPT Awards 2024 - Deadline for nomination: 15 December 2023

David Lamb Memorial Award
Purpose
The purpose of this award is to recognise and celebrate a recently published high quality research paper by a manipulative physical therapist that has made a significant contribution to either the clinical practice or the scientific basis of orthopaedic manipulative physical therapy.
Eligibility
• The recipient must be a manipulative physiotherapist/orthopaedic manual therapist.
• The recipient must be the principal researcher of a paper published in a refereed journal. Preference to be given to works published in a peer reviewed journal. Documentation supporting the role of the applicant as the principal researcher is required.
• The paper to be relevant to orthopaedic/manual therapy practice, as defined by IFOMPT.
• The paper to be first published within the four year period preceding the International IFOMPT Conference at which the award is presented.
• The recipient must be a member of an IFOMPT Member Organisation.
• Members of the Standards and Executive Committee are eligible to present papers for consideration but must be excluded from the judging process if they choose to submit.
Criteria for Selection
• The paper must make a significant contribution to either:
Clinical practice of manipulative/manual therapy
The base of scientific knowledge supporting the mechanisms, or efficacy, of manipulative/manual therapy.
• The recipient to be selected by the Awards Committee as appointed in terms of the IFOMPT Governance Manual before each General Meeting.
• IFOMPT reserves the right not to make an award if there are no suitable applications.
Procedure for Nomination
• Any member of an IFOMPT MO may nominate a candidate for the award.
• The nomination and supporting documents must be submitted electronically to the IFOMPT office at least six months prior to the next IFOMPT General Meeting.
• The following documentation must be submitted for a nomination to be considered:
  • A letter supporting the nomination that specifically focuses on the strengths of the nominee in relation to the award criteria.
  • Details of the person nominating and their membership number of the MO.
  • Current curriculum vitae or resume of the nominee.
  • Letters of support from three individuals upon whom the nominee has had an impact, which specifically address one or more of the criteria for selection.
Geoffrey Maitland Award for Advancement of Clinical Practice in Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapy
Purpose
To acknowledge an individual who has made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the clinical practice of orthopaedic manipulative physical therapy (OMPT) as exemplified by the professional career of Geoffrey Maitland.
Eligibility
The nominee must:
  1. Be a member of an IFOMPT Member Organisation (MO).
  2. Have positively and substantially influenced the shape, scope, and quality of OMPT Practice.
  3. Have significantly influenced other physical therapists in a manner that has enhanced their ability to practise OMPT.
  4. Have contributed to the overall and widespread validation and/or development of OMPT.
Criteria for Selection
The Awards Committee will consider the following as guidelines in the selection process:
  1. Duration of clinical practice.
  2. Substantial effect on shape, scope, and quality of OMPT practice.
  3. Effect on other physical therapists' abilities to practise OMPT.
  4. Effect on the development of evidence based OMPT practice.
  5. Quality and quantity of contributions to the IFOMPT Member Organisation and IFOMPT.
Procedure for Nomination
  1. Any member of an IFOMPT MO may nominate a candidate for the award.
  2. Members of the IFOMPT Awards Committee, Standards Committee, and Executive Committee are excluded from eligibility to be nominated during their term of office.
  3. The nomination and supporting documents must be submitted electronically to the IFOMPT office at least six months prior to the next IFOMPT General Meeting.
  4. The following documentation must be submitted for a nomination to be considered:
    1. A letter supporting the nomination that specifically focuses on the strengths of the nominee in relation to the award criteria (maximum three A4 pages).
    2. Details of the person nominating and their membership number of the MO.
    3. Current curriculum vitae or resume of the nominee.
    4. Letters of support from three individuals upon whom the nominee has had an impact, which specifically address one or more of the criteria for selection (maximum two A4 pages each letter).

SVOMP is very excited to be planning the 2024 IFOMPT 50th Anniversary Conference in Basel, Switzerland. We cannot wait to host you in our beautiful city -  the congress centre is located in the middle of the city, so you will feel the vibe of the city as soon as you step out of the door. Within a few minutes you can go for a swim in the river Rhine , while there are also a lot of world famous museums like the Fondation Beyeler or the Vitra Design Museum to visit.
