Academic and Practical: Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy
Our Institute
The Institute of Physiotherapy at the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences is the largest teaching and research institution for physiotherapy in Switzerland. Through our Bachelor and Master Degree programmes, Research and Development projects and Continuous Professional Development courses, we strive towards sustained professionalization that benefits patients through providing a superior level of healthcare.
Through their acquired clinical expertise, graduates of our institute’s Continuous Professional Development courses contribute to improvement in the quality of basic care and play a part in optimizing the cost-benefit relationship in the Swiss healthcare system.
Our MAS msk programme
The ZHAW programme is currently the only IFOMPT accredited professional master’s level course in musculoskeletal manual therapy offered in Switzerland. The programme and curriculum were planned in close cooperation with the Swiss Association for Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy (SVOMP). For persons already holding an OMT qualification, an optional shortened version of the programme is available.
During the programme, students deepen and expand their knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. Elective specialist areas are manual therapy, sport physiotherapy, hand therapy, ergonomics or pain therapy (elective CAS programmes).
Target Groups
The MAS msk is aimed at physiotherapists holding a bachelor degree and who treat patients with musculoskeletal-related problems. It is primarily suited to professionals in hospitals and those practicing in the areas of orthopedics, rheumatology, surgery, medicine, sports medicine and pain therapy.
